Don't Believe Everything You Read

Friends, the Church has taught from the time of the Old Testament on that lying is always and everywhere wrong.  There are not "two traditions" on this.  There is one.  Believe the simple words of the Catechism, and if you have the guts for it, read my many posts on the subject.  St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, the Council of Trent, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church are in union on this, to name just a few.

This technique, of justifying a behavior we all know is wrong, justifying it for the sake of convenience or a "greater good", Pope Francis assigns to the Devil Himself.

‘Only look,’ he [the devil] will say, ‘just do this one small little scam…it is a small matter, nothing really.” And so he begins to lead us on a road that is slightly off. This is a pious lie: ‘Do it, do it, do it: there is no problem,’ and it begins little by little, always, no? Then [he says]: ‘But…you’re good, you’re a good person—You [get away with] it.’ It is flattering—and he softens us by flattery: and then, we fall into the trap.”

I write more on the dangers of Dancing with the Devil here
